Ok, so seeing as I am 'writing' a lot about writing and what inspired me to write, I thought I should start sharing some other amazing books that have influenced me as a person and a writer. Wow, there was a lot of 'write' in many forms in that last sentence :p
My first recommendation The Lost Symbol, by Dan Brown. Now most of you may know who Dan Brown is, and probably have ready some, if not all of his work. He is most well know for the controversial yet brilliant novel called The Da Vinci Code. I admit, I have not read all of Dan Brown's work, having only getting into his books with the Da Vinci Code, which is a must read! So, once you've braved the adventurous and thrilling story of Robert Langdon in this novel, my next suggestion is The Lost Symbol.
Yes, it is not chronologically the next book in order of publication. And while all of Dan Brown's major novels follow Robert Langdon, I think it's safe to say that you do not have to read them in order. Each book stands on it's own, none a continuation of another.

First of all, it's set in the United States, which for those U.S. reader out there is a nice change from his other works and it is pretty cool to see Robert running through a city and streets many of us have visited - as it is set in Washington DC. The story starts with a bang with Robert receiving on ominous paper with none other than the Illuminati symbol. This simple gesture sends him on a whirlwind of life and death scenarios, putting him in contact with a scientific genius who he grows fond of. As the story progresses, we the readers realize there is more at stake than just a secret underground society beneath the streets of Washington DC. Soon a killer is on Robert's heels, hoping to end his life before he can find out the truth that lies behind the Illuminati. With lives at risk, and a nation unaware of the truth their own government has been keeping from them, Robert Langdon resists all odds to reveal what he soon realizes is a secret hidden for hundreds of years. A secret that most would cringe at the thought of.
But I won't get into much more detail for fear of giving away any plot twists. To be honest, my memory is a little fuzzy on the details anyhow because I read this book several year ago. I actually plan on revisiting it again soon because I remember the thrill turning each page anxious to find out what would happen next. And I was never let down. Dan Brown is a brilliant writer. I am currently reading his newest book, Inferno, so I may be back with another book recommendation once I've finished that. So far, it is also a thriller filled with the unexpected. But until that time, I'm sure I will think of other great books to share. Until next time!
